Christmas 2013

We were home in Tacoma for Christmas this year, and it was our first Christmas with 2 kids.  Of course, Mathias is too young to understand what is going on (although he does love to stare at the Christmas tree and all the lights!), but Miriam was very excited about Christmas - presents, baking cookies, Santa, Jesus' birthday...they even had a "birthday party for Jesus" at her preschool.  I'm going to let the pictures tell most of the story, but we had a wonderful Christmas - good food, great times with family, excited kid(s) opening presents.  We are thankful for our family and friends' generosity with gifts, especially towards Miriam and Mathias.  And since we did a lot of dressing up and getting ready to go places this Christmas, we've realized that getting 2 kids ready to go places is more than twice the work, especially since neither of them can get themselves ready yet.

Here are some pictures, from Christmas Eve as well as Christmas Day:

Decorating sugar cookies - Miriam loved putting on sprinkles the most!

Miriam's Christmas program

We had Miriam's Christmas program tonight.  She was very excited to dress up (she picked out her dress from her closet!), and go to her preschool and sing.  We fixed her hair in hot rollers and she had cute bouncy curls, reminiscent of my bouncing curls when I was young.  The performance was kind of chaotic - picture 30 two and three year olds (all the preschool classes were combined) up on stage, with all of the families watching.  Most of the kids didn't sing (Miriam didn't), but they did do the hand motions and they were an adorable group, all dressed up in cute Christmas outfits.  The room was pretty packed so we didn't get very close pictures of her, but we were very proud that she actually stayed up there with the group, wasn't crying, and actually did some motions to the songs!  (We thought there was a good chance that she'd want to sit with us and not participate at all.)  As soon as we got there though, she was up on stage with the other kids, jumping around, running back and forth between the stage and our seats.  (As a disclaimer- the kids were supposed to get there a bit early to get acclimated to the stage/chapel, since they'd never practiced there, so we were comfortable letting her jump and roam around...she wasn't doing it during the performance. :) )

Here are some pictures, both that we took at home and of her at the performance:
