Happy August! 10 years ago today, Mario and I exchanged vows at the UPS chapel in Tacoma. It is hard to believe that it has been an entire decade since we got married; there's something that seems so long about saying "10 years" but at the same time, these years seem to have flown by. Mario is a wonderful husband, father, and partner in this crazy, busy, exciting adventure of life and parenthood we are on. He makes me laugh most days, roll my eyes other days, calms me down when I get emotional, encourages me all the time, and lets me watch every volleyball match (beach and indoor) of the Olympics while all of the other sports take a backseat. ;) I'm looking forward to the adventures of the next 10 years and many years beyond that. I'm beyond blessed to have him in my life - happy anniversary, sweetie!
Now that August is here, we've wrapped up our travel for the summer (we just got back from a 3 week trip visiting family in the Midwest) and are enjoying some weeks at home before the school year starts. Speaking of the school year, exciting news - I got a job! I started applying for jobs before we left for Europe in June. While we were in Europe I had two interviews over Skype and was offered the position. I'll be teaching part time first grade; it is a job share position, so I'll be sharing a classroom and a class with another teacher. I'm teaching every afternoon, and will be teaching math, science and social studies. The schedule works really well with Miriam's school schedule; I'll be able to drop her off at school every morning, have a couple of hours with Mathias, then teach in the afternoon and be able to leave in time to pick Miriam up most days. I'm really looking forward to getting back into the classroom and especially looking forward to a half time position that will let me have time with Mathias while Miriam is at school. Miriam seems excited about kindergarten, although she does admit she's nervous about being there and not really knowing anyone. She doesn't start school until after Labor Day, so sometime before then we'll hopefully get a chance to see her classroom and meet her teacher, which should ease some of her nerves.
After spending some time watching the Olympics with me, Miriam has decided she "loves" volleyball and wants to play. I taught her how to hold her hands and her arms and we've been practicing bumping the ball in the yard. She wants to come along to one of my (league) volleyball games in the fall and watch, so we have plans to do that. She's also hoping to do swimming lessons and gymnastics in the fall, and although I'm not sure we'll sign her up for both, it is fun that she is starting to get an idea of her interests and things she really likes to do!
Mathias is great - about 3 months shy of 3 and talking all the time! He just recently became potty trained (thanks to Grandma's help in Minnesota!) and is busy trying to keep up with everything Miriam does. I'm going to sign him up for swimming lessons and a gymnastics class in the fall as well, and he is my biggest helper in the garden, loving to pick strawberries and carrots and tomatoes. We recently planted blueberries and blackberries so I'm sure as we get a crop of those next year, he'll be munching on those as well.
It is 97 degrees here today and supposed to be 99 degrees tomorrow; we set up a small-ish (4'x10') pool in the backyard and the kids are awake and begging to go swimming. Hope you all have a great weekend and are enjoying sunshine as well in your area of the world!
