Saturday morning we woke up to beautiful sunny skies. Mario has been working in the yard to re-landscape our front yard and get rid of some mounds of dirt we've had in the backyard since we've moved in. In the meantime, he built me a huge planter in our front yard and a couple of spots for flowers and bushes. Miriam LOVES being outside and will happily run around, pick dandelions, dig dirt, water plants, eat lunch at her picnic table, and help us with anything we are doing. Saturday we planted some bulbs (peonies and dahlias) in our front yard, which hopefully will bloom this summer! We are also planning on putting some other bushes in our front yard to create kind of a privacy hedge between our yard and the neighbor's yard.
Saturday afternoon we were supposed to go to a birthday party, but Miriam refused to take her nap until late in the afternoon, when the party was. She finally took a long nap, just in time for her to wake up and go on her first Easter egg hunt. Miriam's Opa (Mario's Dad) hid some eggs that we'd prepared in his backyard (and by hid, I mean placed them in plain site on the grass). We went over there and gave Miriam her (empty) Easter basket, for collecting eggs. At first, she seemed a bit hesitant and didn't seem sure what to do, but she quickly picked it up and ran around the yard picking up eggs. After every egg she picked up and put in her basket, she'd say "I no no" (I don't know), meaning she didn't know where another egg was...until she's spot the next one, and run on to grab it. And then she discovered that some of the eggs had jelly beans in them, so she wanted to take jelly bean breaks between collecting eggs. At first she thought the jelly beans were "icky", but then she finally tasted one and asks for "jellies" now. :)
Easter morning we woke up to another glorious, sunny day. We had cinnamon rolls for breakfast and then dyed easter eggs. At first Miriam was not interested in the dying process, after she got dye on her fingers. But after that, she enthusiastically dipped the eggs in dye, changing them back and forth between different colors. She didn't want to dip them gently though - she kept saying "I drop!" and then would drop the eggs into the dye. :) Miriam got a small watering can in her Easter basket, and when we went outside she watered the plants right along with us. We spent a lot of time outside, enjoying the weather and working in the yard. During Miriam's "nap" (she never slept), Mario and I made spam musubi (our contribution to the Easter dinner) and then I spent some time reading outside. When we got Miriam up from her "quiet time", we got dressed and got ready to go to Easter dinner at Mario's Aunt's house. Miriam was her usual outgoing, funny self - chasing the kitty, playing catch, creating tunnels with the furniture, and making everyone laugh. She copies what other people do and was trying to make a clicking noise with her mouth/tongue to call the cats - it was pretty adorable. We also discovered that Miriam loves Spam, and we (already knew) she loves dessert. She also ate a lot of chicken, rice and some fruit. In the end, we changed her into her PJs and she conked out in the car on the way home.
Here are some pictures of our Easter weekend. Miriam and I are on spring break this week, and we'll hopefully have some more pictures of things we decide to do, including the zoo this afternoon! :)
